Artist’s Studio
Together with our customer, we designed and manufactured a bespoke Artist’s Studio.
At our customer’s request the studio was to resemble a farm building to sit sympathetically in the agricultural setting. To this end the cladding chosen for the building was red Onduline to create the desired effect.
The concrete base was laid to site the building on. Timbers for the frame and the roof trusses were carried manually to the site due to the narrow access and proximity to the road.
The timber frame was built on site and the whole building insulated with 100mm thick foil backed insulation.
The Studio has a large North facing area for working in and a smaller room for storage.
After insulation both the Studio and storage area are lined internally with ply wood.
The double glazed, North facing roof windows give maximum light inside for the artist at work. Aluminium cappings and rubbers were fitted to the windows.
There are joinery made, double frame, ledge, brace, batten doors for access and a single door at the rear. The double doors allow free movement of equipment etc. into the Studio. The doors are painted in Farrow and Ball colour ‘Eating Room Red’ to tone in with the Onduline cladding.
Onduline offers a durable, light weight and eco-friendly solution for roofing and cladding. The sheets are fixed into place and fastened down with purpose made nails with a protective cap.
Internally the walls are painted white giving a light and airy feel which is enhance by the roof windows.
A wood burning stove is installed and warms the whole building.
A full length double glazed window gives extra light and a view into the surrounding fields.
The Studio opens for it’s first exhibition (before construction is completed!), and is admired by all who visited.
