Hebridean Island of Tiree: Studio and Summerhouse

It was in 2010 that we had an enquiry from customers who have a property on Tiree.  Would we deliver to the island?  Yes we said, no problem.  Two years on and the project has come to fruition.  The long planning stages have proved worthwhile due to the remoteness of the island, weather conditions, the need to create buildings to sit sympathetically in the unspoilt, natural environent and the fact that it would take our whole workforce away from the workshop for a full week in order to complete.  Our customers wanted a Studio which was to sit within the ruins of an old barn and a small Summerhouse for the garden.  Great care was taken to ensure the materials and colours used complimented the natural environment and didn’t look out of place with existing buildings.

Transport was hired to carry the sections and materials, and once loaded up, we were ready for the long haul by road to Oban then the 4 hour ferry crossing to Tiree.

The weather was in our favour and apart from some heavy showers at the beginning of the week, when it actually came to erecting the buildings it was dry and sunny.

The walls, floor and ceiling were insulated with ‘Kingspan’ insulation.  Windows and doors are double glazed.  The roof is insulated, plastic coated steel in Merlin Grey.  The finish is clear stain to keep the building as natural looking as possible.  Electiricity has been installed ensuring all year round use.

The end result – a very satisfying weeks work, an adventure and two very happy customers!

Tiree – a beautiful island.
